Weighing in at a barely-there 100g, the Cafe du Cycliste Madeleine Gilet is clearly a very lightweight, supremely packable outer layer, whether worn from the outset or stowed in a rear jersey pocket ready to combat changeable conditions.

Windproof and water repellent, it features a slim cut to avoid flapping, a rear mesh insert to assist with cooling, and convenient openings for easy jersey pocket access. Reflective piping & a Cafe du Cycliste logo complete the gilet.

I was in the market for a lightweight spring/summer gilet when I came across Cafe du Cycliste. Nothing too bulky, just enough to keep the chill off for them early 05:00 starts. Although reluctant to pay a relatively high price for a brand new to me, I wanted something a little 'different' and to avoid the mainstream brands so took a plunge. I've been using the gilet for nearly two months now and am very impressed. Firstly, it isn't your typical continental race fit, but a comfortable cycle fit none the less; shorter at the front and longer at the back. It certainly looks the part, with a neat logo on the rear at the bottom and the mesh in the middle of the back does a fine job at keeping your lower back warm, but still allowing ventilation. The zip is easy enough to adjust whilst on the move and should the temperature pick up, it is packable in a jersey pocket. Due to an unusually dry British summer so far, I can't comment on it's waterproof capabilities, but it has held off the occasional shower so far.

To summarise, if like me you don't want a typical forum recommendation on a piece of kit, the Cafe du Cycliste is worth serious consideration. Don't expect a close, snug race fit, Instead enjoy its fine design, looking equally as good up your local Strava segment as it is at your post training ride cafe stop, with a performance to do the looks justice. Finally- top class service from

The first thing I was worried about in buying a new Gilet was "How big will this be when I roll it up to put it in my back jersey pocket?" - Simple answer is, it will fit with ease. I did take a photo to attach with this review, but unfortunately cannot. This Gilet will roll down to a size of 4.5-5 inches in length by about 2.5-3 inches across. The Gilet is a nice fit against my body with a size Large on my 42 inch frame with a little room to move and no restriction and no flappy bits.
A note to Australian and overseas buyers - I have purchased about 12 orders since 2011 and when I first did, the postage was FREE over a certain purchase amount arriving in less than 5 days - Now you will have to pay a small postage fee regardless of the amount spent, and it will take about 2 weeks to arrive. No big issue if your not impatient like me, but considering other websites offer free postage over a sizeable purchase with a very quick postage time frame, this is the only slight detriment to the overall purchase experience-Just a small note to point out.
Overall a very good Gilet that looks and performs fantastically, that doesn't scream "Pro Cyclist"

I was looking for a lightweight gilet because my old LG one was too bulky in a jersey pocket.

The Cafe du Cycliste range offers subtle styling and is worth investigating if you after something different, albeit at a premium.

I am 6ft tall, 68kg with a 38" chest and happy with size small. The elasticated waist band tucks in neatly for a flattering fit but will stretch to accommodate layers or stuffed back pockets.

On a chilly morning the Madeleine is adequately windproof and will also keep off drizzle and road spray.

Perfect! another amazing product from Cafe Du Cyclists. Sizing is true to form, slim fitting but room to move and breathe.

Packaged and presented beautifully. Attention to detail and quality mean a lot to this company.

This garment does everything it's supposed to whilst looking really stylish. Very light and packable, easily stowed when the temperature rises. Wind and shower proof but breathable and releases heat through the rear mesh.

I simply can't fault this product or anything else from Cafe Du Cycliste.

    Buy one for Autumn!

I own Rapha hi-vis gilte, but as you know it's not suitable in the summer even if you ride in the early morning. Then, I found MADELEINE GILET, which is lightweight and easy to carry. I believe that this on is really great. However, it might be uncomfortable if you are the ones who carry lots of stuff in your rear pockets.
