When we heard that Babici were teaming up with Australian bespoke frame builders Baum (yes they who won best road bike at the recent Bespoked London event back in April) and forming a 24hr race team based in Europe, we were intrigued.
24 hour motor racing may be more familiar but bike races based on distance have been around for just as long as the Grand Tours and Spring Classics; take the famous Six Day Races or even the simple hour record for example. 24 hour racing is much the same - teams of four or six, depending on the event, try to cover the longest distance over a 24 hour period.
As unglamorous as this may sound, the inclusion of the Baum Coretto decked out in Gulf Racing colours and Babici's flair for design and fit add a touch of elegance to a team that even includes former Lotto Belisol Rider Dirk Bellemakers.
The team's other sponsors include Dutch Wheel Builders Fast Forward and Lezyne who will supply the lights, an essential for night time laps.
You can follow the team's progress this season (their first race is in Holland over the weekend 17th and 18th May) through their Facebook Page whilst live coverage of the races will be broadcast on social media in Dutch and English by online cycling blog racefietsblog.nl.
Oh, and if you're in the UK and looking to get your hands on the Coretto or any Baum for that matter, head over to Prestige Cycles - the guys there can certainly help you out.
