Back in 2010, Strawfoot bags founder Garrett Kautz bought an industrial sewing machine (a Consew, for sewing machine connoisseurs out there), and, with a desire to learn a new skill set as a creative outlet, developed a small range of tote bags and surfboard covers. As frequently happens when ideas and inertia are born out of a desire to make a great product, Garrett's new hobby snowballed into a business and Strawfoot Bags was born.
From the surf community to bike folks, outdoor world and plenty more, Garrett’s quality bags and accessories, all handmade in Santa Cruz, California became renowned to those in the know.
Artisan Garrett Kautz makes these wax canvas bags by hand every day, no bullshit
In 2014 Garrett teamed up with his buddy Vince to help up production, and what followed were more collabs with brands like Oakley, Giro, Niner Bikes, Unionmade, and Companion Bakeshop; gaining Strawfoot a quietly appreciative following. Perhaps the hottest one off of recent months was the helmet & shoe bag - something we are hoping Garrett and Vince will make especially for us.
We’ve been fans of Strawfoot ever since they came onto our radar, and we're delighted to announce that the time is right for us to collaborate: Strawfoot is coming to Always Riding! Starting with kit bags and ride wallets we hope to expand the range, eventually offering more of the bags and hopefully some custom helmet bags (eagle-eyed instagrammers may be familiar with these already.)
The Kit Bag, a project for a local cyclocross team, came from the need to keep muck-covered kit away from clean clothing. It's tough - 100D Cordura tough - and is more than happy to be hosed out and dried after a race or trip away. That it handily doubles as a washbag, camp coffee carrier or travel bag is a pretty sweet bonus.
These bags are perfect for keeping muddy, poison-oak-covered shoes separate from your clean clothes in your luggage or home.

The Ride Wallet neatly holsters the glut of small goods that are now essential for a ride, be that a patch kit and tube, sunglasses, a camera or just the money, card, phone and keys that are never far from hand.
I love nesting pouches and zippered wallets, especially for riding. It’s nice to have one place to throw in your CO2, patch kit, multitool, debit card, cash, “safety” stuff and even your phone....The Ride Wallet fits my Sony RX100mk3, or an iPhone 6, or even a Yashica T4.
