If you are looking to upgrade or replace your existing seatpost, you almost need look no further than the Thomson Elite seatpost. The Thomson Elite has an excellent reputation as a high quality, reliable seatpost with good adjustability, and is widely regarded as one of the best seatposts on the market. It is suitable for all types of riding, being both very lightweight and very strong. It is available in a wide range of sizes, making it an ideal option for any obscure pet projects with unusual seat tube widths, as well as more standardly-sized steeds. As well as being available in a range of width and lengths, a key thing about the Elite seatpost is that it is available in both an inline and a setback option. The inline option is a standard straight post: if you want to increase the reach on your bike (or if your saddle has a short rail section and you want it further back), if you want to shift your weight backwards or if you want to alter your position above the pedals the setback option might be more suitable.
The Thomson Elite is everything you would expect from a company whose sister company (l.H. Thomson) is a leader in creating aerospace parts, and you can tell that a lot of brainpower, as well as a healthy helping of high tech engineering, has gone into its development. The result of this powerful combination is a seatpost with a superior strength-to-weight ratio compared with competitors (the Elite is around 40% stronger on ultimate strength tests than the strongest production seatposts on the market but weighs only around 201g for the road version and around 228g for the mountain bike version). This high strength-low weight combo is achieved through the one-piece integral-machine 7000 series aluminium construction of the seatpost (which results in a stronger and lighter seatpost than alternative construction methods) in combination with additional design features such as an oval inner diameter (which slims down weight without reducing strength).
Other than its behemoth strength, other features which stand in the Elite’s favour include its extensive micro saddle adjustment (ideal for finding the holy grail of saddle positions), its low profile clamp design (which prevents any interference between seatpost clamp and saddle), and the extra long seat rail grip length (which helps prevent saddle rails bending from impact loads). In the event of any severe impact, the seatpost is designed to bend rather than snap, to give the rider some warning if it is going to fail, and impact absorbing clamps are designed to spread and flex on impact to protect the saddle, saddle rails and rider. All in all the Elite is a good option for those looking for a great looking and long lasting seatpost with tons of adjustment and the added peace of mind of knowing that you’re riding on a post of incredible strength.
